College of Arts and Sciences Participates in Educational Research Forum

The College of Arts and Sciences continues demonstrating its commitment to educational excellence through active participation in national forums. Dr Said Al Hadhrami from the Physics Section, Department of Mathematical and Physical Sciences, and Dr. Mohammed Alriyami from the Department of Education and Cultural Studies, represented the College at the Educational Research Forum hosted by the Specialized Institute for Vocational Training for Teachers from December 23 to 26, 2024.

Their joint paper, “The Degree of Difficulty in Solving Verbal Mathematical Problems for Fourth Grade Students from the Perspective of Second Field Teachers,” explored critical challenges young learners face in understanding and solving verbal mathematical problems. The research underscored the need for collaboration between language and mathematics teachers to address reading weaknesses that hinder problem-solving.

Among the key recommendations were integrating language and mathematics instruction to create a cohesive learning experience, training students in the scientific method to approach verbal problems systematically, incorporating graphic representations to aid comprehension, and including therapeutic exercises in mathematics textbooks that are both engaging and educational.

This participation and the impactful recommendations presented at the forum reflect the College's unwavering dedication to fostering innovation in education and addressing pressing challenges to enhance student learning outcomes.
