Research Day at the University of Nizwa Highlights Excellence in Innovation and Collaboration
The University of Nizwa (UoN) celebrated a landmark occasion with its annual Research Day, a flagship event showcasing the institution’s dedication to research, innovation, and academic collaboration.
Bringing together faculty, students, and industry leaders, the day served as a platform to present UoN’s groundbreaking research achievements while fostering partnerships with local and international institutions. The event was officially inaugurated by Her Excellency Prof. Dr. Rahma bint Ibrahim Al-Mahrouqi, Minister of Higher Education, Research, and Innovation, alongside the Chancellor of the University of Nizwa.
In his keynote speech, Prof. Ahmed Al Harrasi, Vice Chancellor for Graduate Studies, Research, and External Relations, underscored the University’s role in advancing scientific inquiry. Key achievements included the publication of over 3,500 scientific papers, the authorship of 326 books and chapters, and 26 registered patents. The recognition of several UoN researchers in Stanford University’s global list of the top 2% most-cited scientists further highlighted the university’s academic excellence.
The Research Day exhibition was the centrepiece of the event, offering attendees an in-depth look at the University of Nizwa's (UoN) diverse research initiatives. Specialized research centres, such as the Natural and Medical Sciences Research Center and Materials Science and Metallurgy Laboratories, presented cutting-edge projects, ranging from healthcare advancements to cultural heritage studies. Faculty and student research contributions showcased interdisciplinary projects that addressed pressing global and local issues. Additionally, the exhibition highlighted industrial innovation with projects ready for commercialization, such as frankincense-based food applications and studies on frozen sardines, emphasizing the university’s focus on practical, industry-aligned research. Over 100 research posters were displayed, showcasing work from UoN faculty and students, encompassing everything from strategic initiatives to block-funded projects.
Strengthening Partnerships
The event also wintnessed a significant collaboration with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding(MoU) between the University of Nizwa (UoN) and Ejaad, as well as the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, and Water Resources, marking a new era of partnership.
A Vision for the Future
More than just a celebration, Research Day demonstrated UoN’s alignment with Oman’s Vision 2040. Through collaborative initiatives, innovative projects, and student-driven research, the university continues to solidify its position as a leading academic and industrial partner.
