The University of Nizwa Inaugurates the International Winter School program
The University of Nizwa recently launched the International Winter School program, organized in collaboration with the University of Hamburg, and the University of Göttingen, University of Jendouba, and sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of Prof. Ahmed Al Rawah, the Chancellor of the University of Nizwa, and attended by His Excellency Dirk Lölke, the German ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman.
The inauguration of the Winter School of My Culture/Your Culture commenced with the recitation of verses from the holy Quran, which were then translated into German. This was followed by a speech from Kata Musa, the Direct Secretary of the project. In her address, she emphasized the significance of events like these that help broaden one's perspective on different cultures and foster cross-cultural understanding. Kata Musa also presented the theme of the Winter school - Boundaries and Crossings in Literary Expression - in the context of the Arab and German cultures.
During the inauguration event, there was a musical interlude featuring traditional Omani music. Dr Claudia Ott played the flute, and the Oman Center for Traditional Music provided Omani chants to give guests and attendees a taste of Omani culture.
During his speech, Dr. Khaireddin Mohammed, the Head of the German Section, emphasized that the current addition to the International Winter School is not the first of its kind. The inaugural edition of the school was held in Germany in 2022, followed by the second edition in Tunisia in 2023. Dr Khaireddin's remarks suggest that the International Winter School has been a recurring event that has expanded its reach beyond its roots in Germany.
The ambassador was given a tour of the University's initial campus at Birket Al Mouz accompanied by the chancellor. During the tour, His Excellency visited different University units, including the Student Success System (SSS), Art Compartment for Handicrafts, and Calligraphy workshop (Zukhraf).
