University of Nizwa Hosts Scientific Research Day with Launch of New Books and Electronic Platforms
The Vice-Chancellor Postgraduate Studies, Scientific Research and External Relations office at the University of Nizwa recently hosted the Scientific Research Day, with the gracious patronage of Her Excellency Dr. Rahma Al Mahrouqi, the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation. The event showcased the University's commitment to scientific research, which it considers a top priority for all academic programs across various colleges and research units.
During the Day Program, Prof. Ahmed Al Harrasi, the Vice Chancellor for Postgraduate Studies, Scientific Research and External Relations, launched his new book titled “Frankincense from Religious and Social Rituals to Pharmaceutical Products”. Additionally, an electronic platform for plant genetic resources data was also launched. The event also marked the delivery of Sustainability Seeds to the gene bank, which is a result of the cooperation project between the University and the Oman Center for Animal and Plant Genetic Resources “Mawarid” of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation.
The University organized an exhibition of research posters, showcasing 100 research projects from various fields. These projects were funded by different sources such as the competency-based institutional financing program, strategic research projects program, and the Ejaad platform supervised by the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation. Additionally, the exhibition also presented internal and external funding projects, as well as student graduation projects. This event provided an opportunity for attendees to gain insights into the research's nature, results, goals, and national directions.
The exhibition witnessed a significant turnout from various deanships, colleges and scientific research centres of the University. Additionally, there was participation from external organizations like Sultan Qaboos University, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Nizwa, the Resource Center of the Ministry of Higher Education, Scientific Research and Innovation, the Omani Botanical Garden and Trees of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, the Science Centre and Technology of the Ministry of Education, Oman Nakheel Development Company, and Oliban Company.
The event provided a platform for researchers, students, and external organizations to showcase their work, exchange ideas, and discuss opportunities for further collaboration. With the launch of new books, electronic platforms, and gene banks, the University is taking significant steps towards promoting scientific research in Oman. The event was a testament to the University's dedication to advancing knowledge and contributing to the nation's development.
