Golden Path to Success
Dr Mercy Mathew
Thomas Alva Edison, who proved his mettle through his magnificent invention of the electric bulb famously said, "Genius is 1 percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration". He had failed 2774 times before he could finally make the working model of his bulb. Well, this certainly proves the fact that actions speak louder than words. The younger generation is the future of each and every country. Human resource is thebest resource any country can have. Hardworking citizens with dignity, integrity and discipline are treasures for the country's development.
Whenever one sees a successful person, the effort he/she has put in to become successful is often overlooked. Only the tip of an iceberg is usually noticed. The major portion of the iceberg consists of the different components of success like hard work, discipline, persistence, punctuality, sacrifices, multiple failures and disappointments, and dedication. In fact, one needs to develop a new lifestyle that caters to ones goals with primary importance to hard work. Success does not come to a person overnight. It is a habit that one develops over so many years. It is anentirely different lifestyle that one follows. In his Atomic Habits, James Clear gives his 1 percent rule- “If you were able to improve by 1% each day for an entire year, and those gains compound, you would end up 37 times better at the end of the year.” These small changes in one’s life can be the Midas touch that turns everything to gold.
Staying motivated is yet another key to success. Dr. A.P. J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India has quoted “Dreams are not those which comes while we are sleeping, but dreams are those when you don’t sleep before fulfilling them”. Students should take a minute to envision what they want to be in the future. A student should always be aware of his or her goals. Goal setting can help tremendously to stay focused. Short term and long term goals help students to keep track of how they are proceeding in their journey. Completed goals often give a sense of satisfaction that helps students to stay motivated for their further journey.
Distractions can often lead students astray which in turn keeps students from achieving their goals. You should have a strategy to deal with this. Each person is unique and therefore one should develop timetables that cater one’s own needs. Quality sleep as well as leisure time is as important as the time you spend studying. You should keep some time away for hobbies that you love. This will help you from wearing yourself out. Taking small steps consistently will take you closer to your goals.
It is also quite important to have a good friend circle that will keep your spirits high. There should be a healthy relationship between friends to promote a good study culture. Each student should be a lamp that gives light to others around them. Each and every person is indebted to his/her society for what they have become. Society shapes each individual as in a mould to be the best version of themselves, and to be giving to society. As the saying goes, one should live and let live. Being tolerant and promoting tolerance is an essential part of our life. One should be able to accept others for what they are. It is diversity that brings in phenomenal thoughts and ideas. Sustainable development should be promoted and one should live in harmony with Mother Earth. After all, Earth provides us with everything, so much more than we can ever give back.
Efficiency is a quality students should develop over time. Efficiency is a serious requirement wherever you are expecting to be placed in life. Whatever is the career you are choosing for yourself, your efficiency will be the meter that the board uses to promote you. Education is the key to success and therefore you should go as far as you can as far as education is concerned. The more educated you are, the more fulfilling your life will become. Keeping yourselves updated is also quite important is this fast paced world. Make it a habit to skim through the newspaper daily. Try to read at least one book every month. Try to learn and become more proficient in new languages as this is certainly going to widen your horizons. Above all, be grateful for what you are and for how long you have come. Practicing gratitude will make your life more fulfilling and complete.
The future depends on what you do today. Always strive to be the best version of yourself. Do not waste time by comparing yourself to others. This is your journey and your own. So try to become the best version of yourself and hold your head high in dignity. The past is gone and the future is yet to be, so hold on tight to what you have in your palm right now and fly high. Work hard, Pray Well and Hope for the Best – This should be your mantra for the rest of your life.
