The College of Health Sciences Meeting with the Nizwa Healthy City Committee

The College of Health Sciences met with the Nizwa Healthy City committee. This meeting is considered to be the first meeting after the signing of a memorandum of understanding. In sync with the accreditation of Nizwa to be a healthy city by the Regional Office for the Eastern Mediterranean of the World Health Organization.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of the College, the Dean of Students Affairs and Community Services, and representatives of the Committee. The meeting was chaired by Dr Salem Al Touby, the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, and Dr Zaher AL Anqoudi, General Supervisor of the Nizwa Healthy City project and the Committee Rapporteur.
In the meeting, Dr AL Anqoudi said “The University has been supportive before the signing of the memorandum of understanding”, and “All batches of the University students, who have been received or trained in the Healthy City, have left a remarkable trace of their presence” he added.
Talking about Healthy City, Dr AL Anqoudi mentioned that 80 standards were followed to reach the accreditation of the city by the WHO. As well as the questionnaires, and surveys conducted to study the health indicators of the community. He also mentioned that the World Health Organization has an orientation towards accrediting healthy cities and institutions.
On the other side, Dr Al Touby expressed the University’s eagerness to contribute to the Nizwa Healthy City committee by all means. In his talk, he mentioned the new campus and how it is structured to promote a healthy lifestyle and establish a healthy environment. He shared the University’s aspiration to be the first Omani Healthy University Accredited, to establish a good healthy environment.
Both parties agreed to establish policies and guidelines to organize the cooperative workflow in conducting research and community services in the future.
