First of its kind Academic Program

The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation has recently approved a Master's of Sciences degree in Accounting at the University of Nizwa. 

M.Sc. in Accounting is considered the first of its kind in Oman. This program is structured to equip professionals with the required skills and knowledge to have expertise in performing complicated accounting functions and conducting research.

Highlighting the importance and the added value of the program, Dr Kaneez Fatima Sadriwala, the Head of the Accounting Department, explained, "The M.Sc. in Accounting degree is designed to provide quality education to the students and to develop their skills in real-time practical applications and research."  

The new program is implementing Oman Vision 2040 by providing first-rate education in the field of Accounting and research skills. Dr Kaneez added, "This advanced program is a well-founded step to modernize the educational ecosystem and support scientific research and innovation. The graduates of the program would be able to pursue postgraduate education (Doctoral and post-Doctoral degrees) or embark on a professional journey in Accounting related industries and organizations."

This program came to meet the request of Accounting alumni who have already joined the labour market. Dr Kaneez said, "We keep close connections with our graduates. We take under consideration their needs and difficulties they face in the work environment." 

This program has been designed to empower the local workforce and to develop their capabilities in the work environments, primarily focusing on those who aspire to take a leading role as Accountants in various organizations, including government, non-government and social enterprises.

Besides the knowledge and ability to solve complicated functions, the programme will enable students to be decision-makers, financial controllers, and efficient in Fund Management. Above that all, it will prepare students to face unpredicted pandemic-like situations.
