International Conference on Sustainable Solutions 2021 jointly organized by the Nehru Institute of Management, India and the College of Economics Management and Information Systems, University of Nizwa
May 6-7, 2021.
The College of Economics, Management and Information Systems (CEMIS), University of Nizwa provided international support to the Nehru School of Management, Nehru Group of Institutions (NGI), Kerala, India in organizing the International Conference on Sustainable Solutions 2021.
The first day, May 6, 2021, was dedicated to the inauguration of the conference. Group Head, National- Sales and Services, Bank Muscat, Oman and member of CEMIS advisory board, Mr. G V Ramakrishna delivered the Chief Guest speech. Dr. S. Arockiasamy, Dean of the College, in his keynote address, spoke on the critical issues that the world faces due to pandemic and suggested sustainable solutions and set the ball rolling for the conference. A heartwarming Felicitation note was delivered by Prof. Norizan Kasim, Assistant Dean for Research and Graduate Studies, CEMIS. The organizing team from India consisted of the Adv. Dr. Krishna Das, Chairman & Managing Trustee, Nehru Group of Institutions, Dr. Krishna Kumar, CEO & Secretary, NGI and Dr. Sheela Srivastava, Director, Nehru School of Management.
Dr. Mustafa Malik, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies played the UoN Corporate video and Dr. Kaneez Fatima spoke about the UoN and CEMIS. Dr. Abdullah Al Shukaili, Dr. Mohammed Dulal Miah, Ms. Mercy, Ms. Anju, Dr. Essa, Dr. Musa and many other faculty members and students from CEMIS were also present in the inauguration session.
Day 2, began with two guest speeches from Indian delegates, which was followed by Keynote address from Dr. Mustafa. Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Studies, on the topic, Education for sustainable development-Imparting 21st Century Skills.
Dr. Essa Raies Ahmed, Assistant Professor, Department of Accounting delivered a presentation on, Manufacturing Risks and Business Performance among SMEs in Oman.
Dr. Abdullah Shukaili, Chair University of Nizwa Entrepreneurship Center and Assistant Professor, Department of Management, spoke on the topic ‘Key findings: Oman Global Entrepreneurship (GEM)Monitor National Report’. The participants appreciated the presentation and were glad to know about the GEM project.
Dr. Kaneez Fatima Sadriwala, Associate Professor and Head, Department of Accounting, spoke on, ‘Artificial intelligence for sustainability in Accounting and Finance’. She explained Robotic Process Automation (RPA), Natural Language Processing (NLP) and gave an insight on accounting ontology for sustainability.
The presentations were followed by Technical session, where Dr. Dulal, Associate Professor, HOD, Economics Department chaired the session for Finance and Mr. Syed Munassir Hussain, Chaired the session of HR and Marketing, this session was co-chaired by Dr. Kaneez Fatima Sadriwala. Professor Norizan shared valuable insights and suggestions on the presentations made by the participants.
