As part of its commitment to strengthening academic openness and fostering international knowledge exchange, the University of Nizwa—represented by the External Relations Office—successfully concluded its scientific training program in Shanghai, China.

The program brought together 16 graduate students from the College of Economics, Management, and Information Systems, enrolled in diverse programs including the Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA), Master of Business Administration (MBA), Master of Arts in Economics, Master of Science in Information Systems, and Master of Science in Accounting. This diversity reflects the richness of academic fields and the comprehensive learning experience offered.

Organized in collaboration with Fudan University, one of China’s most prestigious institutions in education, research, technology, and energy, and supported by the Chinese Ministry of Science and Technology, the program spanned 17 days (August 30 – September 16, 2026).

The training aimed to expose students to the latest global developments in advanced technology, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, and business innovation. It combined academic knowledge with practical applications, offering lectures, specialized workshops, field visits to leading companies and research centers, and cultural activities highlighting China’s development journey.

Week One: Practical Applications in Artificial Intelligence

Students began their training at Fudan University’s Multi-Agent Collaboration and Simulation Lab, where they directly observed how artificial intelligence can coordinate computing, energy, and networks. This hands-on experience demonstrated how technical concepts translate into real-world organizational development and performance improvement.

Field visits included ByteDance, where students explored innovations in AI, R&D, and social responsibility initiatives, and the Shanghai Technology Exchange, where they trained robots to perform household tasks—gaining insight into the human role in AI training. Visits to technology museums further connected modern innovation with cultural identity.

Specialized lectures covered topics such as Foundations of Artificial Intelligence, Large Multimodal Models, and The Internet and Smart Society in China. Professor Xue Xiangyang also delivered a course on AI-Powered Integration of Hydrogen, Electricity, Computing, and Networks, sparking discussions on energy systems, green hydrogen, and technology transfer.

Week Two: Industry Engagement and Innovation

The second week expanded into broader practical experiences. Students visited Transsion Holdings R&D Center, Shanghai Data Exchange, and the Shanghai International Automobile Museum, where they learned about new energy vehicles and tested them at SAIC Motor’s New Energy Vehicle Center.

They also explored hydrogen propulsion technologies at Shanghai Hydrogen Propulsion Technology Co., Ltd. (SHPT) and attended lectures on AI computing, organizational transformation, and AI-driven public services. A visit to the Shanghai Technology Innovation Center of China Everbright Bank showcased digital innovation in the financial sector.

Closing the Program

The program concluded with discussion sessions where students presented their insights, shared suggestions, and reflected on future opportunities.

Through this international experience, University of Nizwa graduate students gained a holistic academic and professional perspective, combining theory with practice. The program strengthened academic and research collaboration between the University of Nizwa and Fudan University, opening new avenues for knowledge exchange and innovation.
