The Fourth Salalah Engineering and Logistics Forum concluded this month under the theme “Engineering and Logistics: A Partnership Towards Sustainable Integration.” The event reinforced its role as a platform for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and collaboration among experts, researchers, and practitioners from across the region.

Held under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud Al-Mawali, Minister of Transport, Communications, and Information Technology, the forum emphasized the critical role of engineering and logistics in supporting national economic growth and achieving Oman Vision 2040.

In his keynote address, His Excellency highlighted the importance of human capital and innovation, calling for increased investment in entrepreneurship, advanced technologies, and sustainable practices to unlock new economic opportunities.

The University of Nizwa participated in the forum, reflecting the institution’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and collaboration in areas of national priority.

Technical sessions showcased innovative solutions to current challenges, including:

  • Cold Chain Logistics: Global case studies demonstrated up to 50% energy savings through automation and renewable integration.

  • Artificial Intelligence: AI-driven solutions generated immediate cost savings of USD 1.8 million and recurring annual savings of USD 800,000.

  • Engineering Societies: Analyses identified key challenges while stressing the need for stronger training, research, and collaboration.

  • Renewable Energy in Logistics: Recommendations included policies supporting investment and local R&D.

The forum concluded with a call to action, urging stronger collaboration between academia, industry, and government; greater investments in renewable energy; and accelerated adoption of AI and digital transformation in supply chains.

These outcomes align with Oman Vision 2040, positioning the Sultanate as a competitive, innovative, and sustainable logistics hub regionally and globally.
