University of Nizwa and NPI sign agreement on pharmaceutical education and research

The University of Nizwa and National Pharmaceutical Industries Co. (SAOC) have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen training for Master’s students in Industrial Pharmacy and support research collaboration in pharmaceutical sciences.

The agreement was signed on September 11 at NPI headquarters in Muscat by Dr Salem Al Touby, Dean of the College of Health Sciences, University of Nizwa, and Mohammed Al Nabhani, HR and Administration Director at NPI.

Through this cooperation, students will participate in industry-based training and internships, acquiring practical skills alongside their academic studies. The partnership also aims to develop joint research projects in drug development and pharmaceutical innovation.

“This agreement integrates industrial experience into our programmes, ensuring our graduates are ready to contribute effectively to Oman’s healthcare sector,” said Dr Al Touby.

Al Nabhani said the collaboration reflects NPI’s interest in building local capacity. “Working with the University of Nizwa allows us to connect academic expertise with industry needs and contribute to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040,” he noted.

The initiative supports Oman Health Vision 2050 by preparing highly skilled pharmacists, promoting local research and reducing dependence on imported medicines.

The University of Nizwa’s College of Health Sciences, through its School of Pharmacy, plays a leading role in healthcare education in the Sultanate. National Pharmaceutical Industries Co. is one of the country’s main producers of medicines and a contributor to the national economy.
