Delegation from the University of Technology Sydney Visits the University of Nizwa to Discuss Entrepreneurial and Academic Cooperation
A delegation from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) recently visited the University of Nizwa to explore opportunities for academic and entrepreneurial collaboration. The delegation was led by two distinguished representatives: Tam Leona, Professor and Associate Dean for International Affairs, and Lum Richard, Regional Director for the Middle East.
Upon their arrival, the delegation was warmly received by Prof. Ahmed Al Rawahi, Chancellor of the University of Nizwa, Bader Al Sulimani, Director of International Relations, and Dr. Salem Al Abri, Dean of the College of Economics, Management, and Information Systems.
The meeting commenced with an introductory video showcasing the University’s standing among Omani universities. The video highlighted the University’s diverse range of degree programs and courses, with a special emphasis on its entrepreneurial programs that foster innovation and business development.
The discussions during the meeting centred on potential collaborations in various areas, including research cooperation, student exchange programs, dual-degree courses, and double-major opportunities. One of the key topics was the possibility of co-supervising doctoral candidates, particularly as the College of Economics anticipates the arrival of new Ph.D. candidates in entrepreneurship and business-related fields.
The delegation also expressed a strong desire to expand the presence of international students, with a particular focus on Omani students. Both parties reflected on the idea of cooperation in hosting academic conferences, seminars, and entrepreneurship-focused events, further enhancing the academic and entrepreneurial ties between the two institutions.
Prof. Ahmed Al Rawahi, Chancellor of the University of Nizwa, shared that the University is deeply committed to fostering entrepreneurship, business development, and innovation within the region. As part of this commitment, the University represents Oman in the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) initiative, which aims to support and promote entrepreneurial ventures worldwide.
The visit marks a significant step forward in fostering entrepreneurial and academic partnerships between the University of Nizwa and the University of Technology Sydney, creating new opportunities for collaboration in the fields of entrepreneurship, research, and global educational exchange.
