University Officials and Academicians Gather for Inaugural Omani Universities Ranking Forum

The University of Nizwa announced the inauguration of the Omani Universities Ranking Forum under the patronage of Her Excellency Prof Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrooqi. The forum saw academicians and university officials come together to discuss the opportunities and challenges higher education institutions face on their journey towards international ranking. 

During her address, Her Excellency Prof. Rahma Ibrahim Al Mahrooqi emphasized the importance of the forum in aligning with Oman Vision 2040 and His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq's commitment to enhancing the quality of education. She also stated that the nation aspires to have four universities ranked among the top 300 universities worldwide by 2040.

Prof Ahmed Khalfan Al Rawahi, the Chancellor of the University, in his speech, emphasized the importance of establishing a unique identity as higher education advances globally. With the increasing influence of artificial intelligence, students need to acquire fundamental knowledge and embrace adaptable learning approaches.

The inaugural session of the forum focused on sharing best practices in university rankings and promoting mutual learning and collaboration. The exchange facilitated institutions in adapting successful strategies to their unique contexts, driving innovation and quality enhancement within higher education systems.

Dr Waleed Khalid Al Rajhi, Chairperson of the Organizing Committee and the Dean of the Planning and Quality Management Deanship, expressed his profound honour in facilitating these vital conversations and dialogues. He urged all participants to actively engage, share insights, and contribute to the collective wisdom of the forum.

The forum also discussed the overall sensitivity and impact of research & innovation output, internationalisation, and collaborations on enhancing the quality of higher education institutions. The discussion highlighted the importance of global benchmarking and collaboration to address challenges such as cost optimization and research funding.
